This is a recipe that I was exposed to by my cousin Susie. She got it from a blog called The Pioneer Woman Cooks, which is one I would definitely recommend. When you are making these for the first time, you really feel like you are doing something crazy! I was laughing at myself the whole time for trying something so ridiculous. But once I tried them, them it became a very serious matter. These are seriously wonderful! I made them for my parents and sisters while we were home last weekend and they were amazed as well! James says they kind of turn out like a really wonderful homemade doughnut with apple inside. Or like the inside of a hot Krispie Kreme. Major yummy goodness!
Apple Dumplings 2 Granny Smith apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoons vanilla
cinnamon
1 small can Mountain Dew
Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan (so you don't wash the sugar off). Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
Then go talk to your Bishop. Quickly. They are that good.
