Griffin Day!

My sister Brooke coined the phrase "Griffin Day" and I quite like it!
We had Griffin's birthday party recently, and I thought I'd post some pictures of some of the fun! First of all, let me say that this was my first big "kid party" and I learned a lot from the experience! The first thing I learned is that 11 kids- is a few too many! But I think they all had a lot of fun. And after a decent night sleep I think I'm ready to say that I had fun too.
Griffin wanted a Transformers party, so I made a transformer ice cream cake and we found a transformers piniata. There was a time when I felt bad that we didn't have as many boy toys as girly things in the house. After this birthday, I no longer have to worry about that! His friends were very generous and Griffin is in boy heaven! There are cars and trucks and superheroes all over the house!
It's tradition in our family that the birthday person gets to choose the birthday diner. With out even having to go to the store and look, he knew he wanted "bear" ice cream in his cake (Danalli Bear Claw, yum!) but the only diner item I could get out of him was "meat!" Finally I helped him decide on steak, broccoli and french fries. My Griffin is a pretty fun kid!

I love the transformer cake! I'll have to tell my sister in law to check it out because I have a feeling her boys will be asking for the same thing in the next few months here! Speaking of transformers, Janna sent us this link the other day... pretty insane! http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1719034/

Wait, that link is fun, too, but this is the one I thought it was. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/too-much-free-time/homemade-transformers-costumes-created-without-computer-graphics-269938.php

Ok, that still didn't work because it was too long. I can't figure out how to link within this text box, so I'll just break up the address so it will fit, then copy and paste it into your browser and remove the spaces... maybe this is all a lot of hassle, but if you like transformers, you've got to see it.http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/

Tara- what a mom. What an over- achiever. You're my hero for even pulling off an 11 kid party! My biggest (and only) birthday party achievement was a 3 kid party. And I have to say that was plenty fun for me. I guess I have to step up my game! Sounds like tons of fun!

Your cake rocks! How did you do that? I have to know since Tyler will be having a birthday soon. If he sees that cake, he will have high expectations.

Lauren is so cute! I love that first laugh! It is the first smile and laugh that all my sleepless nights worth it!

I swear you could put a cute bow in her hair already.

D'Lonna asked how I made the cake... Well, my favorite thing about it is that it is an ice cream cake. And it has layers. But it's super easy. The bottom layer is ice cream sandwiches. then you slice up a half gallon of ice cream to cover it. The slices are about an inch thick. Then you cover it with cool whip. Super fast and easy. But you have to do it the night before so that it can freeze up before you try to serve it. I drew on the transformer symbol with a black gel writer, and then filled it in with red sugar sprinkles! It was pretty fun!

Wow Tara, first I was impressed just by how your cake looked, and now I find out it's an ice-cream cake, wow again! Nice work. 11 party guests, man you must've been pooped. I remember as a kids my mom always limiting the # of guests I could have, I never understood what the big deal was. Funny how your perspective changes! I loved reading about your jobs! Thanks for being one of the few readers who made it through that long post of mine :).
