Kid Report

My funny little kids are the hardest, bestest project that I have ever taken on! Here's a little update on their activities.

Griffin:
Oh boy! Last week I made cookies. Oatmeal, if you're interested. With cranberries. Griffin asked if he could take one to bed with him, and I let him. Any dentists out there can settle down! When I went in to kiss him goodnight, he still hadn't eaten his cookie! He was tucking it into bed with him. He told me it was his cookie friend and he was kissing it and singing it to sleep. I took a picture because I knew I would want to share this story with you, but it doesn't end there.
A few minutes later I hear these gut wrenching sobs coming from the kids bedroom! I went in to see what was the matter, and Griffin had these huge round tears sliding down his cheeks. He was inconsolable! Finally I started to understand what he was saying. "My cookie friend's dead! He died! He died!" His cookie had broken in half. And now his best friend in the whole world was dead. For all his grief it could have been me that had died! I could only think of one thing to say, and I guess it wasn't much help. "Well Griffin, that's the way the cookie crumbles..."
James was much better at consoling him. He told him that cookie friends were like Frosty the Snowman. Frosty came to life when it was winter, and had to leave when it got too warm. But he always came back when it was cold again. Cookie friends, James-the-good-daddy told Griffin, disappear when we eat them, but always come back when mommy makes cookies again! That helped.

Lauren:
My sweet baby is really freaking me out lately. She has grown too big for her cradle, and so on sat. we set up the crib for her. I laid her down in it, and she just loved it. She seemed so comfortable and peaceful. I turned on her mobile for her and pulled a blankie over her. I left the room for a second to put on my makeup and when I came back in to check on her she was asleep! Weird! Kind of creepy?! Yeah!
And then yesterday, she was being kind of fussy, so I put her on the floor to play with her kicking toy. She started kicking happily away, so I thought I'd try to get some work done while she was occupied. After a while, I realize I haven't heard her kicking, so I go over to check on her. She was asleep!
So today, I keep trying to put her to sleep the normal way (walk around with a blanket over her head and a binkie in her mouth) and all she does is fuss. But If I lay her in her bed and turn on the mobile, she's asleep before the mobile stops!
Have any of you ever had a baby do this? Should I take her to the doctor? I'm really kind of worried. She's only 2 1/2 months old. What kind of baby puts them self to sleep at 2 1/2 months?

Kelsie:
My Kelsie sure is growing up! And she is one smart cookie (pardon the pun please Griffin). I had a conference with her teacher today who says that her behavior and academics are all well above expectations. I wanted to be sure that she and her friend Landon weren't causing problems together. When they play together they can be real animals. This is them being animals. Her teacher says they don't have this problem in the classroom.

This is the greatest post ever!! We are in stitches! Scott says props to James for coming up with that on the fly. He would have said what you said and then laughed himself silly.

What a cute story! And way to go James with the explanation for Griffin! Way to go with Lauren falling asleep on her own! That is awesome. Savannah actually did do that. It wasn't consistent all the time but she seemed to like the quiet time to herself. I wouldn't worry all it means is she feels secure...shes getting all her needs met from her parents and you've made her feel so safe and loved that she feels secure enough to do that. You're a good mommy.

Fun! I'll just tell you what our doctor told us when I was worried if something was wrong with Kate when she was a baby. She never cried. He looked at me funny and said, "wrong? No, nothing is wrong with her. It's called a blessing." Oh. Lucky us!

I love that story. I wish I was that quick on my toes. Give James a high five from me. I will have to remember that.
