Is he squeezable, or what!
He weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz., and was 19 inches long.
Labor was terrific! My Mom came down from Spokane Tuesday night because I had started having some labor symptoms and I was pretty sure that once things really started it would go fast! My doctor and I had also talked about induction, since all my other babies have been born that way, and I was pretty positive that even if I didn't go into labor on my own, he would induce me on Friday if my baby and my body looked ready to go.
Then Wednesday morning I got a phone call from my doctor's office saying that there had been a death in the doctor's family and that he would be leaving town the next day, but wanted to check on me before he left, so could I possibly come in to the office in an hour. Ack!!! No induction this weekend?!? I started to panic! I really didn't want to be pregnant another minute, let alone through the weekend- or longer! Plus my Mom was here so I knew my kids would be taken care of. The only people here in Kennewick that I could leave Lauren with overnight are my brother and sister in law- and Megan could go into labor just as easily as I could (being that we were due on the same day)so that wasn't really an option anymore.
So I went into the doctor's office and I pleaded my case. It was a little crazy. We were both lightly panicked. I told him I could be to the hospital in an hour, and that since my last labor had only been about six hours, we could have it all done by dinner time. He said "that's what I was thinking". He did all the responsible things that a good doctor would do, and then he told me to be at the hospital at 1:00. If my Mom hadn't already been at my house there is no way that we ever could have pulled it off, but since she was already "in place" I called James on my way out of the parking lot, and he said he'd be home straight away.
We had about an hour and a half to eat a "light lunch", leave final details of the kids school schedules for my Mom, and finish packing our hospital bag. We got to the hospital ten minutes early, and they checked us into our room. We were ready to get our baby out!
Two hours later we were still sitting there waiting.
Finally, they started the Pit. at around 4:00. Things progressed fairly quickly once they finally got started. The epidural was great. A little heavier than I've had before, but it definitely did it's job. Tyton was born right around 11:00 pm. My Mom was able to be there in the hospital with us because James' brother and his buddy Aaron brought their card game (non-gambling) over to our house once my Mom put the kids to bed! Kind of funny, but I'm glad my Mom was there one way or another! He did have his cord wrapped around his neck (Griffin did too) but the doctor just un-looped it and I wouldn't have even known if James and my Mom hadn't told me.
Tyton wanted to eat right away! He seemed to get the 'this is how I eat' with no problem! He has a mouth very similar to Kelsie's and she was horrible to get to nurse at the beginning, so I was relived that Tyton doesn't have her same issues!
Tyton slept really well that night, and the next day the kids stayed home for school so that they could come see their new baby brother!
We are all thoroughly smitten and absolutely thrilled to welcome him to our family!
